Executive Overview - Training Within Industry (TWI)
The Missing Link to Lean
The principles of Lean Manufacturing have stood the test of time.
Nearly every company that embarks on a Lean journey achieves remarkable successes—at least at first. The challenge is sustainability. TWI training gives “muscle” to your Lean efforts by providing step-by-step training to supervisors teaching them exactly how to improve productivity, quality and morale.
All too often good workers are promoted into supervisory roles but never given the tools or training to effectively make positive changes in their areas. The TWI training model follows a learn-and-do approach that ensures immediate payback and productivity improvements. Students apply the training and demonstrate competency during the conduct of the course.
TWI was created in the 1940’s to bring an inexperienced workforce up to speed quickly. TWI consists of three main components: Job Relations (JR) which ensures good relations with operators and resolves problems quickly; Job Methods (JM) which teaches supervisors how to quickly improve their job; and Job Instruction (JI) which ensures that standard work is taught swiftly and accurately.
