Principles of Lean Enterprise

Discover the benefits of moving from a traditional to a Lean environment.

Value Stream Mapping

Value Stream Mapping is a powerful tool to help companies identify and eliminate sources of waste. This intense two-day workshop is conducted at your site by Minnesota Technology, Inc. experts. Value Stream Mapping is the first step in achieving a more efficient, productive and profitable company. Participants will learn how to identify the sources of waste in the value stream and eliminate waste, prioritize activities and improve profitability. They will also develop an implementation plan that will help to successfully carry out the changes necessary to take a company from a present to a desired state map.

The 5S System

World-class companies use 5S techniques. Now your organization can benefit from this one-day workshop when Minnesota Technology, Inc. experts teach your employees the 5S System: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize through Visual Controls and Sustain. The workshop blends classroom and simulation approaches to guide participants as they transform a cluttered, disorganized production area into a clean, orderly workplace. After this intense training, your employees will have the tools they need to implement 5S practices in your company regardless of the industry.

Set Up Reduction

Now your organization can benefit from this one-day workshop when Minnesota Technology, Inc. experts teach your employees the Single Minute Exchange of Dies System (SMED). The four-step Changeover Improvement Process is used to help companies design no/low cost solutions to dramatically reduce changeover time. This, in turn, allows the firm to meet customer demands for high-quality, low cost products, delivered quickly and without the expense of excess inventory.

Value Stream Mapping in the Office

The office version of our most powerful productivity improvement tool! This intensive, two-day workshop is conducted at your site by MTI experts who will teach your employees how the flow of work impacts the total cost of your products and services. Find extra capacity within your design, estimating, customer service, payables, receivables, scheduling and other administrative tasks. Focus on task quality and efficiency improvement projects. Employees and managers will learn how to manage using Value Stream concepts. They will identify sources of waste in the value stream, develop a plan to eliminate non value-added activities and improve the capacity of your administrative processes.

Lean Culture

Lean Enterprise Implementation requires cultural changes in leaders and workers. Since people tend to resist change, there are many potential stumbling blocks. A variety of tools will ensure success along the Lean journey.

  1. Lean Leader Development

The Lean Leader Development Workshop will help supervisors and managers understand the keys to success in a Lean Enterprise environment.  Participants will learn tools and techniques to enhance their ability to build an empowered workforce while applying what they learn immediately. The purpose of this workshop series is to understand and address certain cultural changes required to assure a successful transformation to a lean manufacturing environment.

  1. Building Teams for the Lean Enterprise

A successful lean enterprise is built and sustained through the actions of empowered work teams, which have the skills, information, and authority to act. This sixteen-hour project starts with individuals who are committed to a goal. The process will help team members see the importance of sharing leadership, use conflict in a positive way, understand the styles of each team member and focus on strengths, build capacity to keep improving teamwork, and develop a clear understand of team goals and set an action plan.

  1. Building a Lean Enterprise Culture While Managing Change

Sustaining a lean enterprise is 20% technical and 80% cultural. Participants in this one-day workshop will learn specific methods to develop leadership and employee involvement, along with techniques used to manage and preserve the gains created by Lean Implementation.

Training Within Industry (TWI)

TWI (Training within Industry) is a proven lean-based training program that provides the framework for employees to succeed in applying lean principles into their daily work life. It is particularly effective in leveraging the role of the supervisor or leader in conducting kaizen events on an on-going basis. TWI consists of three standardized programs:

  1. Job Methods (JM): Teaches supervisors how to produce greater quantities of quality products in less time by making the best use of the people, machines, and materials now available. JM teaches “the industrial engineering part of the supervisor’s job.”
  2. Job Instruction (JI): Teaches supervisors how to quickly train employees to do the job correctly, safely, and conscientiously. For this reason, the JI element teaches “the trainer part of the supervisor’s job.”
  3. Job Relations (JR): Teaches supervisors how to build positive employee relations, increase cooperation and motivation, and effectively resolve conflicts as they arise JR basically teaches the “human resource manager part of the supervisor’s job.”
